Employment and research experience
Associate Professor of physiology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Cagliari, carries out is teaching activity on Physiology of Nutrition for the students of Biological Sciences.
His scientific activity focuses mainly on changes of lipid metabolism in relation to different dietary fattyacids and its implication in some pathological states. In particular his interest is more concentrated on the biological activity of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
For this research he obtained several grants from American agencies such as National Cattlemen and Beef Association and Dairy Management Inc., from the EU under the concerted action program. He is carrying out a triennial EU project within the 5th framework programme Key Action Food, Nutrition and Health, on the production of CLA−enriched dairy products and possible effects on humans and a grant FISR from National Government on the quality of foods from animal origin and human health. He is in the editorial board of the European Journal of Lipid Science Technology, Associate editor of the Newsletter of the International Society for the Study of fatty acid and Lipids (ISSFAL) and past president of the European section of the American Oil Chemists’ Society. He is co-author of 80 publications of which 45 as a main co-author. He is in the expert panel of the European Dairy Association for trans fatty acids. He regularly serves as a referee of the following scientific journals: J. Nutr.; Lipids; Brit. J. Nutr.; Eur.J.Clin. Nutr.; Biochim.Biophys. Acta; J. Lipid Res. , J. Am. Oil Chem. Soc.; Eur. J.
